Hogging the limelight!

I couldn't resist posting this little pic of our hedgehog visitor earlier today.  We had 2 coming to see us for a snack every evening last summer and I was wondering if any would come back this year and lo and behold this little cutie stopped by at lunchtime for a drink and a bite to eat from our cat's bowl!  It's quite unusual for them to be out and about in daytime so I was quite surprised and I guess now he knows where the food is, he'll be back....

  2. For him to be about in daylight, something must have disturbed him, or he urgently needed food/water. It isn't a good sign.
Do keep an eye on him, and make sure he is walking well. On the occasions we found hedgehogs walking about in daylight, they had broken limbs and were struggling to get about for enough food. All were taken to a vet or rescue centres. Many had such bad fractures or infection they had to be put to sleep. One had an amputation, and now lives in our garden in a hutch, free to come and go as he pleases on his three good legs!

  3. Hi June, I was initally worried when I saw him during the day and spoke to the local vet but as he seems to be fine and walking about and eating and drinking we are reluctant to disturb him, but don't worry I shall keep my eye on him..

  4. I am glad he is well. He looks like a youngster making his way into the wide world, so maybe he is just a little confused!
If he knows there are cat biscuits and water available at your garden often, you will have a regular little visitor :o) We have had 5 or more all visiting together on occasions. It can get quite noisy with all their snuffling!
